When Folklore Meets Senior Portraits in Fields of Flowers
Meet Milan, Class of 2025 Creative Writer at Orange County School of the Arts! Milan was my very first rising senior to pre-book with me for one of my coveted Summer signature sessions and sign up for creative dream team, so I called on her to assist me with an idea that I wanted to do: style and shoot in the wildflowers near my home in Aliso Viejo.
Wildflowers are abundant here in Orange County right now, and currently blooming all over Southern California, in spite of the unusual lack of poppies this year there is still a super-bloom happening so time is of the essence! Now is actually the best time to book a shoot and let me help you plan a gorgeous floral photo session to show off your love of the amazing Spring beauty that SoCal has to offer!
If you love bright colors, boho fashion, or even some folklore fairy-core vibes and theatre concepts, it can be done either as a single session with one of our smaller one-hour spots, or added to one of our popular signature portrait experiences as one of the many concepts we offer with a single senior picture session. I assist you with styling for both options!
Many graduates feel they have to miss out on Spring sessions since most senior photos need to be done ahead of yearbook deadlines in Summer and Fall. But our smaller one-hour sessions are the perfect add-on at the end of the year to make some really dreamy or moody artistic portraits that are full of color and beautiful wildflower fields.
If you want a creative session like this, the key is to keep it simple! This session was done with one concept, one dress, one location, and just a few accessories. The concept was dreamy floral cottage-core in blue and orange. I made the flower crown and bouquet myself with flowers from Trader Joe’s, and added some wildflowers when we got to the field. I added flowing fabric and dainty jewelry from our studio style rack to give her a whimsical free-spirited look. Lastly, we shot at the end of golden hour with prisms and then on into blue hour when the sun dipped behind the hills, for a dreamy twilight affect.

OCSA CREATIVE WRITING | Class of 2025
Blue marbles in her sockets
matching the tone of her robe
and the tinting of her wings -
- invisible to all those who’d rather not believe in her.
Sunshine clearing the fog,
solar eclipse beams down
on all of your gleaming smiles,
bright-eyed like you once were
with ice cream dripping down your chin;
sweatshirt catching all the sprinkles
at the zoo in your open-toed sandals.
She sees you now, hoping the new
blooms will boost your mood.
Frogs croaking down in her creek,
pixie dust twinkling like stars
in the navy night sky.
Tonight she’ll rest on her bed of petals.
The nectar, sweet -
- drunk on it like you are
on the ink-printed papers.
Who she is - - who she’s always been,
is someone you might only remember
if you have the capacity to imagine.
Lilypad, she smiles at the sunrise.
Her margaritas are made from
the crushed pollen of daisies;
lemon zest to you.
Everything is more magical to her.
Defenestrating pebbles when she’s trapped,
trying to reason with you
in urban, skyscraper castles.
The trees call her back to them -
- springtime water splashing.
When you grow, move to cities,
you become that old, dry riverbed;
you don’t live in the palaces
that you once dreamed of…
she is who you used to be.
